The Australia Friends of Vellore (FOV) was established 1943 and is an organisation in Australia supporting the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC) in Vellore in South India. The vision of the FOV is to spread the inspiring news about CMC and to gather further support for its work in Australia. There are similar groups around the world, working towards the same goal.
The groups in the different states are located in the capital cities and they work throughout the year in various ways to support Christian Medical College and Hospital at Vellore
Donations to The Australian Friends of Vellore can be made via a state branch of FOV, direct bank debit, or online donation. Contributions can be either to a designated cause that you wish to contribute to, or an undesignated donation where the board will make a decision on how this money is allocated.
The CMC was initially started as a medical school for women in 1918 by Dr. Ida Scudder. It was upgraded to a college in 1942. Men were admitted from 1947. At present it has an annual intake of 100 students for undergraduate degree (of which at least 25 are women) and postgraduate degree in various sub specialities.
Today, after a spectacular expansion in recent years, CMC Vellore is a multi-speciality medical institution of international fame with nearly 3000 beds, spread over various campuses.
